I just unsubscribed to QAD because I don't appreciate the ridicule you are  applying to Jesus the Christ...In a sense, there are many persons in this world who still live under similar beliefs as the persons who would administer "an eye for an eye" justice. Jesus taught turn the other cheek, but such practices like the constitution of the United States relies upon similar beliefs of right and wrong. - Ken

[ No quote from Jesus? Here is another one on Jesus speaking
for Principles or Righteousness:

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness'sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
--Jesus of Nazareth]

Read your Bible. Plenty of places where there are wars.- Joy

I was raised a Christian and believe in the teachings of the Bible. America needs only common sense to tell us that preemption may (probably is essential) be needed for our protection. We are, in fact, in the right to protect ourselves and should not delude ourselves by thinking otherwise. Remember..."Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition". Law

"For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.
Matthew 24:5-8 Sent in by many , but first Randy

[It would seem that wars, nation against nations are sorrows. Is this quotation supposed to support preemption as a doctrine because it may bring the end of all days? This seems against war... If this is a pro-war statement, I do not see it. If it is, be not troublked about Saddam killinghis own people...it
must come to pass...it is not a casus belli. -JA]

Just wanted to comment on your comments about pre-emptive war. I am what would be termed an evangelical Christian and, while I certainly do not think war is a good thing, I'm not sure that it should always be avoided. No, there's nothing in the teachings of Christ that says we should go to war. But there's
also nothing that says we shouldn't. I don't believe that He ever specifically addressed the topic of war. Yes, He said that we should love our enemies and turn the other cheek. But does this mean that we should let anyone do anything to us that they want, no matter how vile? If someone should attempt to rape you or kill you, does Christ mean for you to stand by and let them
do it?

Maybe sometimes we have to take actions to protect ourselves-as individuals and as a nation - in order to prevent evil from
occurring. -Gordon

It has been proven many times that Saddam conducted mass murder
on his people similiar to Hitler. We as society condem Hitler's action and many wonder why we did not intercede sooner. The war in Iraq is justifed by those actions alone. Jesus was one to hold individuals accountable. -T. Edward

There are a number of ways to justify a war, according to Thomas Aquinas in his 7 criteria for justifiable war, and even so, we do not know the ONE reason why we are in this war.-Ess

[St. Thomas Aquinas was undoubtedly a brilliant man, but he was not a prophet. In fact, it was his opinion that a child did not have a soul until 2 years' old and therefore their death was  of no great moral consequence. He would have been for abortion because of his (quite ridiculous) notion that a child was not human with a soul until two years' old. Now his notions of just war are fascination, but not on par with what Jesus said.-JA]

You talk about how the religwist Jesus' word to fit their agenda, while at the same time doing so yourself. If you are going to use the Bible to support your opinions, use it in its entirety. Don't just pick what helps you to attempt to prove your own views. -Goodbye, Jean

[In the Bible, the punishment for adultery...it is clear, is death by stoning. Jesus Himself thought certain portions of the Old Testament were too harsh...as he stepped in with the prostitute Mary and said, "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone." This exercise in trying to ascertain the principles
of Jesus and apply them to modern day problems is WHAT ALL PEOPLE
NEED TO DO. I said that this was a theme about Jesus and not the
Bible. I did not htink I could POSSIBLY OFFEND A CHRISTIAN.

If Jesus is the Way, his principles are also the WAY. A sincere  understanding of what JESUS ACTUALLY SAID is a great use of our collective time. This is not a Bible study course, it is an e-zine that examines PRINCIPLES from secular as well as spiritual sources. What is better than Jesus? -JA]

Please remember that any quotes that you use should not be evaluated by their words alone, but put in the context. Many Christians even do not know how to do this or have the ability to contextualize many of the passages that they find. Please do not treat quotes from Jesus in the same way you would treat a quote by a philosopher or famous person. Jesus is more than
simply those.

Also, you would have to read the whole Bible and study it carefully in order to be able to solidly say Jesus is a certain way. One must be very careful with statements such as that because there are many levels of who Jesus is that we as humans struggle to comprehend. Be careful in stating that "Jesus is
this' and "Jesus is that". There may be more to it than you
realize. -Jill, student

Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. "For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; and A MAN’S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD. "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. "He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost
his life for My sake will find it.
